    Talking Fortarock 1st Edition 2009

This year Fortarock is brought to life in Nijmegen, Holland

    The line up:

    Warbringer
    Heidevolk
    All Shall Perish
    Delain
    The Dillinger Escape Plan
    Keep of Kalessin
    Kataklysm
    Candlemass
    Death Angel
    Satyricon
    Meshuggah
Moonspell (including guest performace Anneke van Giersbergen(The Gathering))
    The Devl's Blood

I went, originally alone cuz no one either had time or money to go, but in the end Rhea and Koen wanted to come along =)
I went by train and they by car, so i met them there

I was exactly on time for Warbringer, i wanted to see them badly cuz i only saw 2 songs at graspop and LOVED it!
I enjoyed their set and they managed to get a circle pit started at 12:30 PM!

Next up was Heidevolk, a Dutch band about beer or something, i saw a few songs, wasnt to interested in it to be honest
All Shall Perish was next and they were pretty much just making a lot of noise! The last time i saw them before this festival was with Sworn Enemy in De Kade, Zaandam and they were a lot better!
So I walked around at the metal market and bought some patches

Delain was doin the same thing as always on the mainstage, time to buy something to drink^^ By this time Rhea and Koen arrived (finally i was getting bored alone...)
The Dillinger Escape was also a big blast of noise, Koen enjoyed it but i couldnt bear to hear more then 3 songs, bought food cuz i was hungry! I sat down and run into Warbringer's vocalist, congratulated him with giving an awesome show and he said thanks xD

After that Keep of Kalessin was to play at the mainstage and it sounded ok, but it didnt give me goosebumps in any way...

FINALLY time for KATAKLYSM, first time for me to see them EVER!!! And they made me very happy, especially with the song: In shadows and dust! (a guy came crawling outta the moshpit cuz he broke his leg, should have happened during Crippled and Broken xD)
Next was Candlemass, Herman brought me to their show at Graspop so i knew them from there, it sounded alright but i was to tired from banging my head at the Kataklysm performace, i was sitting in the sun and drinking a beer, enjoying the wonderfull weather!

Death Angel prepared for their show in the Tent stage and i was excited to see them again, i was amazed how well they played, it overwhelmed me even more then last year at Waldrock and my hair went up and down, from left to right and so on!
Satyricon was next and i dont know what happened to the sound but it was tuned down to level 5 or something, very very soft and boring, but Satyricon has never been my favorite band so i didnt really care...

Now time for MESHUGGAH!!! Unfortunately i was by train and couldnt watch more then 35 minutes cuz i had to catch the last train home, but thats ok cuz they played some of my favorite songs in those 35 minutes^^ Bleed, Lethargica and Perpetual Black Second! It wasnt as good as the previous show id seen from them cuz the guitarist was like drunk or something and he missed a few important notes in the intro of perpetual black second... But all in all it was LOUD AS F*CK xD (ended with me having a huge headache from banging my head to fast to their ridiculous rhytms)

I didnt see Moonspell or The Devil's Blood cuz of the train but that didnt really bother me much

I had a really good time! The festival is still small and very well organised, not that expensive and good sound (except for the Satyricon show)

Herman you should go next year! Its worth it!

Candlemass played in an open air forum when it was sunny??? This does not compute.
