    Hockey

So are there any hockey fans on these boards? I don't have cable so I don't get to see many games but the Stanley Cup finals are on NBC so I've been watching that. I'm hoping Edmonton comes through (though they are losing the best of 7 series 3 to 1 with Carolina Hurricanes on top). This fall I'm planning to go to as many Northern Illinois University (the school I'll be attending) hockey games because, while it's a commute to get to the rink, the tickets are free if I have my student ID. I love hockey and I can't find anybody in real life that likes it too.

So, for those here who like it, who are your favorite teams and/or players? I'm a fan of the Chicago Blackhawks and I'm now pulling for the Edmonton Oilers.

I love hockey, I got an American sports channel which covers NHL and I try to watch when I can. Last year when I was in The States the NHL unfortunately was on strike so I couldn't visit a game. Better luck next time...

I'm a Colorado Avalanche fan and am also pulling for the Oilers, though it looks bleak.

I prefer international hockey (specifically the Olympic hockey) because of the small differences in the rules. For example, in Olympic regulation play there is no icing and the clock continously goes down (meaning it doesn't stop while the players get ready for a face off or other things). Although I only get to see olympic hockey once every 4 years but it is great to see when it comes around (and even then, with no cable I don't get to see most of the olympics and what ever is on NBC usually isn't hockey)

I am a fan of hockey, like to watch international stuff as well, but I do enjoy watching swedish elite series, and some NHL isn't wrong either.

huh? no icing? haven't noticed the continuous clock either. the differences I know of from the NHL is that the rink is wider and that there is no red line off side. the thing I like best about the olympic is the clean sides without ads.

Ya, it seems like the people who regulate Olympic hockey want to keep the action going and don't like to stop and restart play (a reason why there is no icing and a continuous clock)

It's gonna be hard for Edmonton to win (I still hope they do) because they have to win the next three games to win the cup but Carolina only has to win one. It isn't impossible but the odds are against the Oilers. But, hopefully they'll win (or at least drag the series to six or seven games)

I'm still surprised how last season (2 years ago) it wound up in Florida, of all places. and yes, I am rooting for the Oilers

Yeah but one of the reasons florida got the cup is because of the amazing canadains on their team...so in theory, canadians still won the cup that year

Man, the Oilers owned the Hurricanes on Saturday. I hope it transfers to tonight, but there is always a chance it won't. The oilers have an advantage for coming off of 3 wins in a row, but the Hurricanes have the advantage of home ice, which is important. I want the Oilers to win, but I also think it would be neat for the Hurricanes to win because it would be a first for their franchise (at Carolina).

Sure, if you don't count tonights game (game 7). Compared to the last 3 games the Oilers played like shit. Carolina was dominating when it came to the physical game (which is a turn around from previous games) and Carolina just played their best tonight and came up the winners. It is kinda nice to see North Carolina recieve its first professional sports award, but I wish it was going to Edmonton.

I'm not sure if I'll be following the NHL next season because I plan to be going to all the Northern Illinois University hockey games (at least the home games) since it's free to get in with a NIU school ID and the rink is just minutes from my house and only about 30 minutes from the school (as long as there isn't traffic on the highway). But I'm planning to go to a few (or more) Chicago Blackhawks games this coming season (if I have the money).
