ok i am not sure if anybody already suggested this at some previous juncture, but i think it would be 'rad' if we had a guitar solo battle.

you have to indicate the min:sec where the solo begins and ends
and you can only choose a single solo by a single guitar player out of a song that has multiple
and the rest of the song is not to be judged, just the solo
the solo may not be longer than 2:00 or something like that
it has to be a lead type solo over a backing bass or guitar riff in the midst of a "normal song"

so basically just scroll two thirds of the way through any regular metal song and that 8 or 16 bars of guitar wanking should count.

what do you think?

I think that is an excellent idea.

Hmm, I dunno. We could do that, but only as a mini-tourney. I don't see the point of such battles running for the whole week, but 2-3 day ones - why not?

I'm generally into strictly defined criteria for song selection - no more 'open' tournaments. Solo battles, riff battles, japanese bands-only, 1980s black metal, females on drums, etc., etc. All those may happen (maybe except for female drummers).

Okay,

Round 1 has just ended. We've had some tough battles, but there were 2-3 pretty one-sided clashes. Things won't be so easy in the next round...

16 songs remain on the battleground. I have put them in the randomizer thingy and as the result, 8 Round 2 battles are formed.

Round 2 starts right now and lasts full week, till Tuesday August 16th 12:00 CET.

Round 2 is over! Out of 8 battles, 1 ended in a tie and a coin toss had to 'pick' the winner. Round 3 has been drawn and the battles are all there.

I can see less people voted in Round 2 in comparison to Round 1. Is it due to summer season only?

Anyway, all 4 Round 3 battles are ready for your thoughts and votes - be there!

Voting in Round 3 is open at least till Tuesday 23rd August. (I say 'at least', cause it may be prolonged if I don't find a good internet connection during my business trip into the woods, planned for next week )

Round 3 is over, two semifinal battles are already running. Voting ends next Friday (Sep 2nd).

Any idea when the next one will be?

so...this has been one hell of a week, haha

I would totally get this going again but I'm pretty busy at the moment. Believe it or not it can be pretty time consuming. During the summer I will have alot of free time. Maybe I will take back the reins this summer if Marsallah is too busy.

Well if no one minds I could easily do it in a few weeks. The current semester ends the first week in march and I'm only taking one class in the summer, so I'll have MORE than enough time. What needs to be done other than posting results/threads/match-ups? Do you have to checking to make sure each submitted song hasn't been used already?

I think the legal Metal age to do it is 24.

well thats it amok. Either you can do the battles or you can never use the word "wiener" again.

Sure. Would be interesting to see what bands people bring to the table that haven't been in a battle before.
