Thread: Metal Battles shall go on - Get in the Pit!

As probably all of you already know, Blaise will step down from the MRU Battlemaster position when TOC ends (i.e. this Friday, 21st May). I hope he will find some time to participate in MRU Metal Battles, but due to extended family obligations, he has left me in charge now.

I do believe all of the people who have been submitting their favorite tunes for Metal Madness still have plenty of new and old songs that deserve wider recognition. Bring'em into the Pit, then and let your MRU peers be the judge and jury! I also want to encourage newcomers to join our battleground: submit songs, then vote in every battle (comments are appreciated!).

As for rule changes: I like the current formula and - at least in the first edition of Get in the Pit - I don't want to introduce too many novelties (if it works alright, why spoil it?). The only alteration I want to make is the controversial tiebreaker thing: from now on there are no tiebreakers, everyone's vote counts equally. Ties will be determined by a coin throw by yours truly.

All other rules are intact, i.e,:

- submission/voting period is Friday-Friday
- you are allowed to submit 2 songs, first one is guaranteed
- make sure your submissions are available at youtube
- no cover songs, live versions only if studio recording isn't available
- keep it metal \m/

This Friday (21st May) I will open a new thread in which I will ask you to submit your 2 choices for GitP I.

On the next Friday (28th May) Round 1 of GitP I shall begin.

You can expect each round to end/start around 12:00 noon CET (Central European Time). This means that e.g. all of our North American members may start submitting/voting in wee hours of Friday morning and Aussies will have to wait till Friday afternoon/evening.

In the future you may expect some minor changes in the formula and special tournaments. If you have any suggestions, post them in this thread.

I'm looking forward to hearing some new metal (not 'nu metal'), especially since TOC which is currently run contains old songs and MMVIII allowed for rehashed submissions, as well.

I'm glad the Metal Battles will survive. I've discovered some cool new music from the battles, and I'd be sad to see it go.

i kind of liked the songs from a year battles. maybe we should have another. or songs from pinkish orange metal with a twist of lime only battle.

Yeah, I also enjoyed single year tournaments. Not to mention I was one of instigators of single year battles. By 'special tournaments' I meant also them. We may have one-two editions of GitP with narrowed criteria for submissions, but I'd have to make sure N00bs doesn't want to run it some time in the future, it was his thing.

I'm going away for the long weekend which has just started. I'm taking my family to the middle of nowhere where probably there will be no internet. I'm hoping to be able to end current battles and start Round 1B in time (around noon CET tomorrow), but if I fail to find a good connection, please be patient.

Of course all votes count until I post the final score in given thread.

There is going to be more time to vote in Round 1B - voting will be closed around 7 PM CET this Monday (instead of noon) and Round 2 shall start shortly afterwards.

As previously announced, battles in the Pit will take on a more focuesed form, namely songs in some tournaments will be picked according to certain criteria.

I want Get in the Pit II to be run as a single year tournament, incorporating songs from albums released in the year 2004. I bet you remember N00bs started collecting submissions for this one, but the tournament was never started. I want to finally make it happen.

This is how we are going to do it: I copied all your choices from N00bs's thread. The list of first and second choices includes names of people who submitted them.

You may change your initial choices, but even if you don't, please confirm them. We need 32 songs, remember. If we end up with more than 32 submissions, I will give priority to submissions which have been confirmed in this thread and new songs from people who hadn't submitted back a few months ago in N00bs's thread.

I figured we all may easily start submitting now, as there is only one - final - battle of GitP I being run at the moment. If we manage to have enough songs in time, I plan to start Round 1A of Get in the Pit II the coming Friday (9th July).

And now for a special announcement:

I am going on vacation next Thursday (August 12th) and leave Get In The Pit II battles in hands of your favorite radio DJ, N00bs. He will close semifinal battles and run the final battle.

I am planning to be back online around beginning of September. Get In The Pit will thus take a short (ca. 2 week) break, but when I return, I will immediately post a submission thread for GitP III. I can already tell you that it will be an open tournament, so everyone will be able to pick whatever song they like, as long as it's metal and hasn't participated in MRU battles yet.

Im glad that i finally won a tourney, but i have to say im alittle disappointed with the lack of people voteing now...doesnt make the victory feel as sweet.

Im not overly bothered by it because i love Enslaved so its a much deserved win in my opinion. Congrats on the win. \m/
