Death Metal
Cruciamentum. When I click on my iPod and reach that name I notice that I am right above Cryptopsy. This makes a whole lot of sense. Whether it was planned this way when picking their name or just a coincidence, it makes a whole lot of sense to me. There are moments on this demo that remind me an atmosphere that I have only been able to find on the greatest death metal record of all time: None So Vile. Now, I don’t mean to say that Cruciamentum sound like Cryptopsy. Not at all. They sound like a more “br00tal” Bolt Thrower. But there is something about the disgustingly heavy atmosphere that gets to me and personifies death metal.
This band is extremely desperate to stay in the underground. This is their only complete demo, being originally a cassette tape only release, with digital files only from the band’s Myspace. Whatever their reason it is to stay in the shadows, they could easily wipe the floor with a good three fourths of the modern death metal scene. This release only contains three songs and ending at eighteen minutes. That is enough to know that this band means business.
Each of the three songs displays similar structure and style, so I really only need to mention Rotten Flesh Crucifix. When I say that this is one of the best death metal songs I’ve ever heard, I am not over exaggerating. The song progresses from speedy and groovy death metal (sounding like it was recorded in a basement) into a slow chugging slab of riffage. The fuzz coming from your headphones will be deafening as the sound is huge. The vocals fly atop the mountain of distortion from the guitars and amps. A good comparison for the riffage would be Slugathor. The crunch and impact is more important to the sound than technique or soloing. Overall I am left with a very satisfying dose of death metal and it has been a long time since something shook me out of my death metal coma.
Cruciamentum is a band to look out for. I wish there were more songs here, but it is a demo. I cannot wait to hear a full length or more from the band. Hellsyess.

Cruciamentum destroy Cryptopsy in every conceivable way. And yes they are killer and people should listen to them. This type of stuff is making up like 80% of the metal I listen to lately.
Check out Goat Molestor, Grave Miasma, Archgoat etc too.
And yeah, I think they may share a member..

I think I like people's rendition's of Lovecraft's creatures than what LC originally thought of. Or perhaps, the exaggerated versions.

1,648 in 1,234 postsThat's the music I like the most: when the image reflects the sound and it all comes together to go beyond music into another realm. I never get tired of that aspect. Aside from that, I'll take a summer day with galloping tunes and CCR on a road trip.
Speaking of, now that gas will be 14.00 a gallon, I'll have to work additional overtime. New car only gets 32 ( at best ) on the highway vs. the Civic which I could squeeze 39-40 at best. Sonsabitches.

1,883 in 1,316 postsLocus, what would you define this type of death metal?
I have just been calling it dark death metal. I can hear the influence of the chunky guitars originally made popular with bands like Entombed or Dismember, but it seems like they decided to take the seriousness of Cryptopsy and move it into a more classic horror direction and less of the porno gore and satanic direction of bands like Cannibal Corpse or Deicide.
If you don't feel like making threads for each band perhaps a new thread for all of these would be appropriate.

467 in 347 postsOhhhh man this is the pure raw, filthv and elitist underground stuff
This is the answer to modern death metal and all that trendy crap
For the big boys...the ones with an unfathomable passion for death and the occult
Call it Satanic Death Metal or Raw Death Metal or True Death Metal
Whatever you want...
These bands are inspired by Blasphemy,Nuclear Death,Beherit,Incantation,Infester,Grave,Cenotaph and Mortem
Cannibal Corpse,Swedish and finnish death metal are kinda irrelevant to these bands
I mean the finnish and swedish already have their own resurgence going on right now
These bands aren't worshiping those bands
That's considered mainstream death metal, scratching the surface
But whatever
Disgusting shit though huh!
The way death metal should be and stay
RAW,DISGUSTING,DEFILING
YEARGH!!!!!!!
Also i don't want to start a thread because there is sooooooooooooooo many bands that it's honestly a hassle to bring them all up haha
In fact i think i might start a band soon
Call it Ornamented or Ornamentation
Or like Defloration
Something like that...
"...why do i watch the dawn...
I've found out, that in life there are no real answers
so i'll just have to die to attain knowledge to my...pain"

1,648 in 1,234 postsThat last vid 2:28 - 3:28. Daz whut Ahm talkin' abooouuuuuuut. Amazing.
All of the vids posted seem to have two things in common: Beherit's Oath of the Black Blood and Incantion's Onwards to Golgotha. That's what I hear anyway. What I like is when they push their DM heroes' sound in a new direction but with one foot still planted in the original DM hole. Portal does this well.

927 in 663 postsYeah, this stuff is THE SHIT. It is like Onward.. meets Beherit. With a dash of Blasphemy. Fucking killer shit. Teitanblood are fucking killer. Also, Proclamation's Advent of the Black Omen was brutally good too.
When I have time I may start up a thread for this shit. If someone else doesn't~

1,648 in 1,234 postsLooking back, there were tons of bands in the early 90's that all had similar sounds. It wasn't until Euchrist's debut that things started to change.
