    this is bullshit

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/4508158.stm

i went to download some powertabs and this is what they said

Due to the aggressive stance that the MPA is planning against tablature/lyrics websites we have had to take the unfortunate decision to suspend the downloading of tablature for the immediate future whilst we clarify our legal position. The PTA was founded as a learning resource for musicians and the PTA staff make NO money from running the PTA but we so not wish to break the law and risk legal action against us. User Compositions will be unaffected and will still be hosted here at the PTA. We appreciate all your comments/support in the PTA forum. Thank you for your understanding. The PTA Staff.

    this is some gay shit

Seriously, it wouldn't fucking surprise me if in a couple of years they tried to pass a law where it is illegal to listen to music with your window open as it would be considered an illegal public broadcast (because someone who hadn't paid for the album you are listening to may accidentally hear it).

The music industry is really getting out of control. There is not even anything remotely intellegent about this proposed ban of free tab sites. Sure, I suppose a lot of tabs are availible in official song books, but really, most online guitar tabs come from the hard work of some individual trying to figure out a song, and they damn sure usually are not perfect.

It isn't like anyone is making money from distributing these free tabs. The only thing I can come up with is that the music publisher fuckheads want to create pay sites where you have to spend $70000 a month to download official tabs.

Music is not supposed to be a fucking business. It is supposed to be art, and it is supposed to be about getting your art out there for others to enjoy. But now, all it is about is money, and suing people for downloading music, and banning the free guitar tab sites and fucking arresting site owners and giving them a bit of jail time for providing FREE guitar tabs.

Shit like this really pisses me off...

A lot of tab sites say that the music industry shouldn't make a problem of it as most tabs are only interpretations of the original works and contain a lot of mistakes. Devoted musicians will get original tabs anyhow if they're available...

Personally i think it should be up to the artist whether or not their tabs are aloud. Being a musician I know that it can be a compliment for someone to use your music - but you never want someone saying it is their own. This is what copyright laws are for - and tab websites arent really violating that seeing as how just about anyone with a good enough ear can create tabs.

yup i use that one as well, quite good

and tabs should be free, it's not like you download a fucking album when you print out a tab.
But I personally(i will probably get shit for this)think that you should buy the albums instead. Otherwise the bands make lesser money and can't make a living of it. But downloading has it's good stuff too, more ppl get to hear their music before they maybe buy it(if they haven't allready downloaded it).

Well, Dago, most of us feel that way about downloading actual albums. But fucking tabs? Maybe downloading OFFICIAL tabs, but user created, mistake-ridden tabs? That's just ridiculous.

Nothing wrong with downloading music. It comes down to the individual how he handles it afterwords. I download music but in return end up buying the albums i truly enjoy. Sure, people will say you can listen or browse a album in a store but we all know that some of these bands albums never see the light of day in music stores and why not do it from home instead of running out to the store everyday? I know there are people who strickly download and thats a shame but there are a lot of people who also buy these albums to truly support the bands but there is nothing wrong with previewing albums first.

Yeah, not only that, Anubis, but some albums need some time to ferment.

I know of plenty of albums that I have that I hated at first, but now I listen to them constantly.

What's good for me now is that I can go back and look at stuff I downloaded over a year ago, and now that that genre of music appeals to me, I like it.

I use itunes most of the time. The only reason I pick itunes over a real copy of the cd is the price. Every metal cd at Tower Records is around 20 dollars whereas they're usually around 9.99 on itunes.
