    Bass players!

So yeah, are there any bass players out there? if so what do you play? do you use a pick or fingers? what equipment do you have? I personally use a three finger technique like alex webster. I play on a platinum warlock bass (which really sucks) and 100 watt yorkville bass amp.

I do not really know that much about basses, but why does the warlock suck?

I started out playing music in a band as a bassplayer. Lots of women who play metal music play bassguitar I noticed....

It was 1990 and someone I met in a bar said to me: oh I know you can do it, please join my band. You can have my bassguitar and amp! I will learn you how to play. I was trilled! I still got tapes with me playing, it is oldschool hardrock but I got great memories.

I learned alot about melodic and rythm stuff during a few years and joined a few bands but they never got my dedication again.
I still got that guitar and I sometimes play it to finish a song I write or just for fun. I own a Yamaha 50 watt amp (old but true as hell) and a Westone guitar (4 string). Last year I almost sold it but I'm glad I didn't anyway......... I'm not that materialistic but I love my gear.

It's a B.C. Rich, which are apparently frowned upon quality-wise.

yes thats just it, bc rich does not make good equipment, unless its really high end or custom. Ive also heard that they made good instruments in the 80's. So yeah, the pick-ups suck, its heavy and unbalanced. All of which are bad.

I play a Yamaha 4-string (don't know the model of it but it's at least 10 years old) and I had a 50 (or 100, can't remember) amp but it has died on me and there might be something wrong with the bass too. For the past 3-5 months I've been playing my bass "acousticly" since the amp is broken and I'm too cheap to buy a new one. It sucks because I focus mainly on the top 2 strings since they are the easiest to hear without an amp. But ya, I play mainly with a pick but when I don't I just use 2 fingers (pointer and middle) to play.

Ive been playing bass for about 5 years. I have a New York Pro 5-string and a fender fretless 4 string. I have a gallien krueger head and i dont know what brand my cabinet is heh. I choose drums over bass to play in bands just because i can read drums better than bass, but id say im a bass player. I am pretty good besides the fact that i cant read it... hehe. I play with fingers, anything else would be cheating.

a bass lived at my house for a while on a couple of occaisions. one was an ibanez sound gear 5 string, and the other was an ibanez 4 string...um it was one of the higher end models but i dont remember which. i liked the sound gear better actually. i recorded some bass parts in my day, but they were basically hey look there goes the guitar riff lemme follow it minus some notes. basses are just too big for me. my hands are pretty large and as someone mentioned a lot of girls play the bass but i guess i never cared enough to put in the time to get up to that scale and still play well. meh.

i think bass is underrepresented in most metal bands. i have to say that a bass guitar is a great opportunity for polyphony rather than just beefy octaves. you got your own mind and hands, write your own part, then plead for it to be audible in the mix. i think death does this pretty well, and later pantera. and mudvayne of all bands is exemplory here.

but always remember as a bass player, you are like a second drummer with more possible tones...so above all else make sure you lock in the rhythm aspect.

I play a Rogue that cost like $89. It sucks. I play it with a practice amp that cost $39. It also sucks. I just bought it so I can learn how to play. I've gotten decent, I think. I broke a string though and have no idea how to put a new one on. So now I play with three strings. But I can still play some Sabbath, so it's all good.

i have a spector active pro 4, that i play through a ba115 ampeg. for a 15inch speaker, it has massive lowend rumbling tones, and surprisingly the highs standout very well.

15" isn't only 'bout the low end...

if you want real deep lows, you have to get a 8x10...

I have an Hartke WK-5 Active 5 string bass, a Ibanez SRE 400 prototype and a Ibanez GSR 200 passive. The SRE 400 is my main-bass, it kills, even you.
I have also a Marshall "bass 20" practise amp, built in 1982 or something, really old school stuff, then I got a Peavey TKO 115 S amp in the practise room of my band, it's like 80 watts, but can't fight against ENGL and Randall guitar-amps... so there came my new Yamaha BBT 500 H with an Ashdown 4 x 10.

    Don't have pictures yet...

    Thread necrobump'd.

I haven't played that Rogue bass in almost two years. I now have a decent Squier that I like quite a bit. I don't really play bass as much as I used to though, only when I'm recording something and I have to lay down a quick bassline.
